VALLEJO — Students, families and community leaders gathered at Solano Community College’s Vallejo Center to celebrate the impact and continued growth of the Momhi Scholarship Program.

The program is supported by a $450,000 commitment from the Yocha Dehe Wintun Nation through Doyuti T’uhkama.

The event focused on the students behind the scholarship, with Momhi recipients Shalika Barnard, Terry Martin and Shanna Belleau sharing their stories and several students receiving scholarship awards.

Yocha Dehe announced its expanded commitment to Momhi earlier this year, providing $150,000 annually over three years through the Solano Community College Educational Foundation.

The program’s name reflects the spirit behind the investment. “Momhi” means “share” in the Patwin language.

“Education creates opportunity not just for individuals, but for entire communities,” Tribal Chairman Anthony Roberts said in a press release when the expanded commitment was announced. “The Momhi Scholarship reflects our belief in sharing resources and opportunity with communities across our Patwin homelands, helping Vallejo students pursue their goals and strengthen the region we all share.”

Yocha Dehe Tribal Council Member Yvonne Perkins, who also serves on the Doyuti T’uhkama board, joined the celebration on behalf of the tribe.
