The Yocha Dehe Fire Department welcomed the community to its annual Open House on Saturday, Oct. 3, offering a free afternoon of family activities, firefighter demonstrations and hands-on opportunities to learn about fire safety and emergency response.

“Our Open House is a chance for families to have some fun, meet the firefighters who serve this community and learn about fire safety in a hands-on way,” said Yocha Dehe Fire Chief Shawn Kinney. “We want people to get to know our team, see what we do and leave with information that can help keep their families safe.”

Visitors participated in live fire extinguisher training, tried out the Fire House Spray Prop and Junior Firefighter Challenge Course, learned about CPR and met members of the Yocha Dehe Fire Department. The event also featured a Reach 7 helicopter showcase. Families enjoyed a full day of fun, including free hot dogs, drinks and ice cream, a bounce house, outdoor games and face painting. Guests were also given safety swag and the chance to enter raffles for prizes.

“Yocha Dehe’s commitment to our neighbors goes beyond the boundaries of our Tribal lands,” said Yocha Dehe Wintun Nation Tribal Chairman Anthony Roberts. “Our Fire Department is an important part of that commitment, serving our region and helping keep families safe. Every year we invite our neighbors to join us for the Open House, meet our firefighters and enjoy a day together as a community.”
