The Yolo County Library will be recognizing Native American Heritage Month in November with an exhibit on display in several branch libraries from the Yocha Dehe Wintun Nation, and with related film screenings throughout the month.
“It is an honor to host the first Yocha Dehe Wintun Nation display,” said Yolo County Librarian Patty Wong. “Please take time in November to visit one of the host branch libraries in Davis, West Sacramento, Winters, Esparto and Yolo to reflect on and celebrate Native American Heritage Month.” A selection of films featuring Native Americans will also be shown at the Davis, Winters and West Sacramento branch libraries as follows:

Winters Community Library, 708 Railroad Ave. in Winters

“Smoke Signals is among the refreshing new generation of films by and about contemporary Native Americans,” said Jay Johnstone, Davis branch librarian and organizer of the film series. “These films should be viewed with a critical eye for cultural bias and intellectual honesty since regrettably, most Americans have acquired their impressions of Native Americans through mainstream entertainment media.”
