FAIRFIELD — Meals on Wheels Solano County is the recipient of a three-year grant totaling $300,000 from the Yocha Dehe Wintun Nation to support and expand its Fall Prevention Program, helping older adults throughout Solano County remain safe, healthy and independent in their own homes.
The grant allows Meals on Wheels Solano County to expand its efforts to address one of the leading causes of injury and hospitalization among older adults. Through personalized home safety assessments, education, safety modifications and supportive services, the Fall Prevention Program helps reduce the risk of falls while empowering seniors to age safely and with dignity.
The investment was awarded through the Yocha Dehe Wintun Nation’s Doyuti T’uhkama initiative. Meaning “to give the acorn” in the Tribe’s native Patwin language, Doyuti T’uhkama reflects a longstanding tradition of sharing resources to strengthen communities and improve lives throughout the Tribe’s ancestral territories.
“Falls can be life-changing for older adults, often resulting in injuries that threaten their independence,” Laurie Hartmann, executive director of Meals on Wheels Solano County, said in a press release.
“We are deeply grateful to the Yocha Dehe Wintun Nation for their extraordinary generosity and vision. This investment allows us to expand services that help older adults remain safely in the homes they love while improving their health, confidence and quality of life.”
“Supporting organizations that strengthen our communities has always been part of who we are as a people,” Anthony Roberts, chairman of the Yocha Dehe Wintun Nation, said in the press release.
“Meals on Wheels Solano County is helping older adults remain safe, healthy and independent, and we’re proud to support a program that allows more seniors to continue living with dignity in the homes and communities they know and love.”
For nearly 50 years, Meals on Wheels Solano County has helped older adults maintain their health, independence and dignity through nutritious meals and supportive services that enable them to continue living safely at home.
Today, the organization provides home-delivered meals, nutrition education, wellness checks, pet food assistance and fall prevention services to thousands of older adults throughout the county.
