FAIRFIELD — The Fairfield Expos finished up the Yocha Dehe World Series over the weekend at Laurel Creek Park by splitting a pair of games, shutting out Sonoma County, 3-0, Friday before losing to Clovis, 9-6, Saturday.

The Expos are 68-10 overall heading into this week’s American Legion Western Regionals at Laurel Creek.

The 68 regular season wins is one of the largest totals in the 100-year history of American Legion baseball. The Fairfield Expos Baseball Association believes it could be the most and is trying to verify the statistic.

Fairfield opens the tournament against Tucson Post 7 (Tucson, Arizona) Wednesday at 7 p.m.

Teagan Gonzales threw a one-hitter and struck out nine batters Friday in the win over Sonoma County. He allowed one hit and three walks. Jackson Armstrong retired the final two outs.

Bryce Alcantara led the team with two hits. Michael Rivera, Jordan Dix, James Gibson and Aiden Simons had hits. Rivera and Jack Jacobson drove in runs. Fairfield scored all three of its runs in the sixth inning.

There was much more offense in Sunday’s game. It was tied 5-5 through seven innings before Clovis scored four runs to grab the lead in the extra eighth inning. Fairfield scored one in the bottom half of the inning but no more.

Seth Tjaden hit a double and had a pair of singles for the Expos. James Gibson was 3-for-4 with two RBI. Matthew Hague had two hits and an RBI.

Jacobson, Noah Rodda, Simons, Armstrong and Ethan Thompson all had hits. Simons, Armstrong and Thompson drove in runs. Jayden Badhesha, Dylan Edding, Cole Rodda and Hague all pitched for the Expos and combined for six strikeouts.

Fairfield won its tournament opener on Wednesday 10-0 before holding off Chico 6-5 on Thursday. The Expos could have played in the championship game, but opted out to prepare for the upcoming regionals.

Clovis finished the tournament 3-1 and won the tournament title with a 24-0 victory over Yuba City on Sunday. Kadyn Kirkley doubled, singled twice and drove in six runs to lead the champions. The Nighthawks were coming off a loss in the state championship game to Petaluma the previous weekend.

Chico finished 2-2, Yuba City was 1-3 and Sonoma went 0-4.
