YOLO COUNTY, Calif. — Multiple fire departments and law enforcement agencies worked together to rescue a dirt bike rider who had fallen down a ravine in Yolo County, the Capay Valley Volunteer Fire Department said.
Officials said on Friday afternoon the dirt bike rider went down off Rayhouse Road, landing at the bottom of a steep ravine with hip and arm injuries.
The fire department said the rider was with friends who quickly called 911 and one of them climbed down the ravine and gathered wood for a small fire to keep the rider warm.
Rescue crews used pickup trucks and off-road vehicles to reach the rider. Crews then used a rescue stretcher to hike the dirt bike rider to an area where they could use a pulley system to pull him to safety, the fire department said. Air medical services flew him to an area hospital to treat his injuries.
Officials said the rescue effort involved the Capay Valley Volunteer Fire Department, Yocha Dehe Fire Department, Williams Fire Department and REACH Air Medical Services. The California Highway Patrol also assisted in driving the flight crew to the scene and Cal Fire helped provide station coverage during the rescue.
The fire department said the rescue took a total of two hours to complete.
