Touro University California is kicking off the new school year with its annual Mosaic Gala to help fund diversity scholarships for its students.
Set on the Mare Island Campus, this year’s “Roaring 20’s” themed event takes place on Aug. 22 and unites community members, distinguished scholars and elected leaders for the cause.
The University’s Mosaic scholarship is designed to create opportunities and empower the continued success of individuals from diverse backgrounds.
The annual gala is the largest fund-raising event for the Mosaic scholarship, which to date has raised over $1.1 million, awarding over 150 scholarships. Officials say Touro University California, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit institution of higher learning, is committed to advancing diversity, inclusion, and belonging for students pursuing careers as doctors, nurses, pharmacists, public health specialists, physician assistants, sonographers or educators.
This year’s Mosaic Gala will include both a silent and live auction, raffle and dinner. Midtown Jazz trio adds to the festivities with music from the jazz age of the ‘20s.
During the event, the 2024 Mosaic Achievement Award will be presented to Yocha Dehe Wintun Nation, a self-governed, sovereign nation centered in Yolo County’s Capay Valley. The nation supports their citizens by strengthening their culture, stewarding their land and creating economic independence for future generations. They are committed to building strong communities and developing effective partnerships with their neighbors in California’s Capay Valley and regionally in Yolo, Solano, Colusa, Lake, and Napa counties.
The Kaiser Permanente Health Equity Scholarship will be presented to Danielle Miguel, Joint MSPAS-MPH student. This award supports students who share Kaiser’s vision to improve quality of care, address health disparities, and foster an environment where everyone can thrive.
