We are now officially the Yocha Dehe Wintun Nation.
This name change speaks to our heritage, and in our traditional dialect means “home by the spring water.” Our former name, Rumsey Band of Wintun Indians, was given to us by the federal government originally because we had a village site close to the town of Rumsey. It had no meaning or significance to our proud ancestors.
Today, we move forward with a name that honors our history and heritage.
