With a long history of migration based upon season and climate, we appreciate the importance of water to all life. Accordingly, we conserve water to protect both the quality and quantity of this precious resource for the long term.
- To treat potable water at Cache Creek Casino Resort, the Tribe employs a state-of-the-art Electrodialysis Reversal (EDR) system, which is among the most advanced treatment technologies employed in the industry and generates clean water while reducing salts.
- Resort wastewater is treated to a tertiary level using a membrane bioreactor (MBR) treatment, which generates water that is safe for human contact. This process recycles 80 million gallons annually to flush toilets at the Resort and to irrigate the golf course, creating a valuable resource from what would otherwise be a waste product.
- To protect Cache Creek and its riparian habitat, the Tribe partnered with the Cache Creek Conservancy and local students to remove invasive species such as tamarisk and arundo, which can adversely affect stream flow and natural habitat, and to replace them with native plants.
- To reduce water use, the Tribe uses native landscaping and drip irrigation. On crops that require flood irrigation, the runoff is captured and pumped back to the fields.
- To improve water quality, the stormwater from the Resort property is channeled through oil-water separators before making its way to the detention basin located on agricultural land across the highway.
