Last month Solano Community College was the site of dreams starting when  223 students were awarded more than $184,000 in scholarships made possible through  the generosity of our donors.

Scholarship recipient Mickie shared what the award has meant to her in a news release.

“This generous support has made a profound impact on my educational journey,  allowing me to continue my studies in Early Childhood Education and Studio Arts  while also expanding my advocacy work and inclusive daycare program,” she said. “As  a student, artist, and mentor, I strive to create spaces where children and families feel  seen, valued, and empowered.”

The scholarships were awarded to students, presented by the Solano Community  College Educational Foundation and the Solano Community College Scholarship  Foundation. Before the ceremony, more than 100 recipients of the Yocha Dehe Wintun  Nation Momhi Scholarship and their families had the opportunity to meet and speak  with members of the Yocha Dehe Tribe.

“We are proud to honor these students who embody the spirit of ‘momhi,’ which means  learning in the Patwin language. Their achievements reflect the power of education to  strengthen both individuals and communities,” said Anthony Roberts, Tribal Chairman  of the Yocha Dehe Wintun Nation who also serves as Board Chair of Doyuti T’uhkama.
