At Yocha Dehe we know that using the garden as an integrating context for learning creates the framework for collaborative and student centered teaching and learning. Garden-based learning uses the garden’s natural ecosystems as a context for learning. The Yocha Dehe garden provides these hands-on learning opportunities in all academic areas – science, math, social studies, language arts, music and physical education. The garden project continues to be fully woven into the health and nutrition programs at the Academy and culminates with seasonal Ileihno Farmers Markets where their garden fresh produce, eggs and Seka Hills products are offered to the community.
