The Yolo Food Bank revealed it assembled and distributed more than 2,200 holiday
meal kits to families throughout Yolo County after it recently hosted its annual Holiday
Food Distribution in Woodland.
On Nov. 21 and 22, the YFB provided hundreds of local families with meal kits, which
included frozen turkey, fresh produce and shelf-stable dry goods.
More than one hundred cars arrive at Yolo County Food Distribution drive-through
Recipients pre-registered for designated time slots, which enabled a smooth, efficient
pick-up process, the YFB explained.
The YFB said it has partnered with the Yocha Dehe Witun Nation to facilitate the
Holiday Food Distribution Program since 2010. During this year’s event, tribal members
joined YFB board members, staff and volunteers to distribute more than 500 meal kits.
YFB executive director Karen Baker honored the Tribe’s foundational role in the
program with a recognition plaque in a special presentation.
This year’s community-led distributions occurred in Woodland, Davis, Winters, West
Sacramento, Guinda, Clarksburg, Esparto, Knights Landing and Madison as well.
“The Holiday Food Distribution program truly embodies our mission – to work as a
community to meet the food and nutrition needs of Yolo County,” Baker said. “It is a
tremendous community-wide effort that brings together our partners, staff, and
volunteers to ensure families can gather with loved ones over a shared holiday meal.
