The Woodland Community College’s Foster & Kinship Care Education Foundation received a $48,500 donation from the Yocha Dehe Community Fund to serve Yolo County youth in foster care.
Kris Stanfill, YDCF Director stated, “The Committee is excited to be a part of supporting Yolo County Foster Care and the efforts to recruit and retain local families for local children.”
Historically, young people have had heartbreaking outcomes when exiting the foster care system; including high rates of homelessness, incarceration, early and unplanned pregnancies and unemployment, according to Stanfill.
“Tragically most foster youth suffer academically, have poor self-sufficiency, and few successful endings,” Stanfill stated.
With this support, the WCC Foster and Kinship Care Education program, “will enhance efforts to build a stronger network of local families willing to open their hearts to youth in need of safe and stable homes.”
